Update

Well...the good news is that I've been offered a two-book deal in Germany.

Apparently my novel went to auction over there and Goldmann's won. That doesn't sound quite right, but I don't know how else to put it!

I'm really thrilled, not least because I'll be sharing a publisher with Sophie Kinsella, Cally Taylor and Stephen King, among others. My husband's particularly thrilled because he lived over there for a while and speaks fluent German. So at least he'll be able to read it.

The not-so-good news is that there's nothing on the UK front - yet. It's still out with publishers though and I'm probably being FAR too impatient. I had no idea that waiting could be so tiring. All that email checking and the effort involved in trying NOT to email-check. It's messing with my chakras.

I urgently need to take up yoga.

Congratulations Karen, that is wonderful news. It doesn't matter what country publishes your novel as long as it is published.

Squeee! This is brilliant news Karen - a two book deal and an auction? Stuff o'dreams.

Don't worry about the UK you have built it (the book!) and they will come.

Full and whole hearted sympathy about the waiting driving you mental. I've started acting like a Tennessee Walliams leading lady - and not in a good way!!

Crack that champagne!!

Brilliant news! Love the pic of flying the flag. :)

Isn't it exciting - people actually bidding for your book? And to share a publisher with such fab people - OMG!

The UK side will happen, I'm sure. It must be very hard to curb the impatience though - yoga is good!

That's absolutely fantastic, Karen! So pleased for you.

So you already know it's a good enough book to be bought by a publisher - th UK ones will be there soon too. (Trust me - I have strange powers and know these things!)

Fantastic! I went to a book signing of someone who had her book published first in Germany, then got a UK deal, so it'll be coming soon :-)

Really well done, and I hope you enjoy the champagne.

Never doubted you for a moment, you uber-talented chick you ;)

Oh, blimey, how have I only just seen this?! Just brilliant and exciting and, well, other adjectives of aceness!

The UK bit will come. It will.

In the meantime, I'm loving the concept of 'urgent yoga'. Can I nick it?

Many many congratulations, Karen! I'm so pleased for you. Must brush up my German. As for the UK publishers - yes, you're absolutely right, waiting is utterly exhausting. What I resent is that it takes so much energy away from composing new work - though I'm sure that's not so in your case. xx

Very late with this - but OMG huge congrats! The Germans obviously have great taste. Go glug some champagne for me you international author you! x

It's a start, and a damned good start at that. Congratulations! As for UK publishing, isn't Goldmann's part of the Random House group?

OMG OMG OMG OMG KAREN!!!!!!!
What fabulous news! Am going to email you straight away...x

Karen said...

Thank you all for your lovely, supportive commments.

To be honest I've become a bit jaded by the waiting, thinking things were really going to take off, only to realise it may not happen at all in the UK. Certainly not for some time anyway.

I guess it's time to get my finger out and get on with some more writing instead of obsessively waiting for a 'fabulous news' email.

Let's face it, this time last year I didn't even think I'd get as far has having an agent, so I really must stop mooching about and be bloody grateful I have someone out there rooting for me, as well as you lovely lot :o)

Karen said...

Mike, Goldmann's are part of Random House, which kind of made me think/hope maybe the UK branch might be interested but apparently it doesn't work like that :o(

Oh and I haven't taken up 'urgent yoga' but I have booked some Pilates classes starting in September!
